The Olympic medalists in Tokyo 2020 Sandra Sánchez and Damián Quintero have qualified for the final of the European Karate Championship, which is being held in the Turkish city of Gaziantep, at the end of the first day of competition.
Sandra Sánchez will face the Turkish Dilara Bozán, whom the Talaverana already defeated with solvency in the final of the last edition. For his part, Quintero will have to face fellow Ottoman Ali Sofuglu, who was the one who took the gold medal from him last year. Both finals will be played on the afternoon of Saturday 28.
Sandra Sánchez, who aspires to get her seventh consecutive gold medal in Europeans, has started the tournament in the best possible way, finishing first in the group, achieving a score of 26.20 in the first round, 25.74 in the second and 26, 00 in the medal round.
Damián Quintero, who also wants to achieve his seventh European individual gold medal, the eleventh also counting the team category, has been first in all the rounds he has played. The man from Malaga closed the first round with a score of 25.08, the second with 25.86 and 25.96 in the medal round.
