MADRID, 23 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sevilla beat Athletic Club (1-0) this Sunday in the last day of LaLiga Santander, three points that were not enough for the Andalusians to climb to third place in the table, while the Basques said goodbye to their option to play Europe.

Julen Lopetegui’s team, sanctioned at the end of the Championship at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, fulfilled their part in a match open to both, but Atlético de Madrid won (1-2) against Real Sociedad and finished third ranking position.

All in all, the lesser evil for a Sevilla that was guaranteed to play the next Champions League. The Andalusians were overwhelmed in the first half by a more intense Athletic, with the obligation to win and hope for a favor from Barça against Villarreal.

Yuri put Marcelino’s men ahead, but the VAR warned of a possible hand from the visiting player and the goal did not go up to the light. On the brink of halftime, Sevilla showed up with En-Nesyri, the best for the Andalusians, and after the break Athletic was once again better.

Iñaki Williams found the stick and on the next play Rekik scored. However, this time the VAR frustrated Sevilla and the goal did not rise either. Bad news reached the Basques from the Camp Nou and Rafa Mir’s goal was the final blow.

The Sevilla striker won the back in a good play, with the rival already committed to the attack, and closed the course with victory for Lopetegui’s men. Athletic stayed at the gates of playing the Conference League, in a bitter goodbye to the season amid rumors that it could also be Marcelino’s goodbye to Bilbao.
