The captain of the Spanish basketball team Silvia Domínguez believes that “in success there is a lot of work in the shadows” and that, in order to win big competitions, it is necessary to experience a summer like the one the team will have this year, a ‘Road to future’ which is something “much more important” than you might think.
“Everything we want, that ‘Road to the future’, is built in a summer like this. You cannot qualify for a Eurobasket or the Eurobasket itself and expect to do well, you need a summer like this. It is much more important From what people may think, in the successes there is a lot of work in the shadows and now we are in that construction in the shadows,” he explained.
Silvia Domínguez, at the ‘Media Day’ of the Spanish women’s basketball team after presenting her summer tour under the slogan ‘Road to the Future’, assured that being an international always “contributes something different” to what you have in a club.
“We are players who are often facing each other on court and we also want to enjoy ourselves. It is important that we can go on vacation in a month satisfied with the work we are doing here and with the future we are building”, she commented.
The other captain of the team, Alba Torrens, believes that this selection is a “combination of youth with more veteran players”. “It’s diversity in many ways, it’s adding in different ways, learning from each other and yes, I keep one thing, and last year it was shown, and that is that this team competed, united, being at the top and stayed everything one step away and that is what we will continue to do: work, build, enjoy it and have a good time”, he declared.
“Maybe we’ve had some experience like 2011 or last year where we didn’t get the results we wanted, but I know that I’m left with the way the team competed. I think it wasn’t the result we all wanted. , but I prefer the way we compete against the best teams,” said Torrens.
The new signing of Valencia Basket was excited about the future of the selection. “I think that right now we have chosen the path of seeing this summer as an opportunity to see each other better, to connect, to build this new path together with Miguel Méndez. We know that the goal is in November and we have this summer to prepare collectively,” he assured. .
The Spanish coach, Miguel Méndez, in charge since 2021, was “delighted” to see the faces of all the players. “The objectives are very clear, we are building the team, building the future. The foundations are very solid, based on experience but with a lot of young talent”, he commented.
This summer the Spanish team will start facing Belgium and Italy in Melilla at the beginning of June. “These are two very important duels with national teams, especially the Belgian team, a great team in recent championships, and Italy, which is one of those teams that, if you find yourself at the crossroads, are very dangerous matches.
