Sporting Huelva is inspired by 2015
The Andalusians surprise UDG Tenerife and will face Real Madrid or Barça in the final
ALCORCÓN (MADRID), May 24. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Sporting de Huelva surprised Granadilla Tenerife (0-1) in the first semi-final of the Copa de la Reina, which is being held at the Santo Domingo stadium (Alcorcón), thanks to a solitary goal from Patri Ojeda 15 minutes from the final, despite the dominance of the Canary Islands throughout the match.
Antonio Toledo’s team was at the mercy throughout the match -in the first half they barely set foot in the opposite field- but they got away with it to follow in the footsteps of the historic 2015 squad, which has already won the only Copa de la Reina in his story. This Tuesday, with a large dose of work and some luck, they took the ticket to the final.
The Canary Islands, for their part, showed off their daring football, the same one that has taken them to fifth place in the Iberdrola League, but without the aim necessary to enter the final battle. Neither Estella nor Martín-Prieto could change the course of history in a hard-working first half for the team from Granadilla.
In fact, after half an hour, the island team managed to beat Sporting through Patri Gavira, but the goal did not go up to the scoreboard because they controlled the ball with their hands. The carousel of chances did not slow down and Francis Díaz’s team sought patience, aware that sooner or later their moment would come.
But it was not like that, rather the opposite happened, when Sporting took a slice of a set piece that Patri Ojeda finished off with his head. A hairstyle that touched the stick and ended up kissing the nets. The goal left UDG Tenerife very shaken, and they kept trying without the criteria they had shown up to that point.
Sporting could have even doubled their lead with occasional chances against Edgren, but the score did not budge. The 0-1 was enough for Huelva, who went from less to more and knew how to find their moment. He is already waiting for Barça or Madrid in the final on Sunday.
