MADRID, 17 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Fedepesca, the employer of traditional fishmongers, has demanded from the Government a policy of support for healthy eating, with the reduction of the tax rate levied on fishery products to place it at 4%, according to a statement.
Specifically, the employers request this tax reduction again after knowing the data on food consumption in households published by the Ministry of Agriculture that reflect an “alarming drop” of 8.4% in the consumption of fishery products in households in 2021 compared to 2020 and that represents 20.4% less than 2008.
According to data from the Ministry on Food in Spain 2021, it is the families of low socioeconomic class who buy the category of fishery products less intensively, being below the average consumption in Spain, 22.72 kilos per person and year, the classes medium, medium low and low, with 22.36, 21.77 and 20.05 kilos per person and year, respectively.
Households made up of couples with small children only consume 9.71 kilos per person per year, less than half of the average consumption in Spain, and of this consumption only 3.7 kilos per year are fresh fish. Middle-aged couples with children remain at 14.80 kilos per year, of which only 5.7 kilos correspond to fresh fish.
