MADRID, 23 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, criticized the King Emeritus, Juan Carlos I, on Monday for the visit he made this weekend to the town of Sanxenso and pointed out that he had missed the opportunity to apologize to the Spanish and give an account of “unethical” or “exemplary” facts.

In an interview on RNE, collected by Europa Press, Rodríguez has indicated that the Spaniards were waiting for an apology from Juan Carlos I, that society and democracy deserve them and that he should have taken advantage of this visit to “give an account” of those “actions” that they have known each other during this time and that in his opinion are not compatible with the “transparency” and “exemplarity” that correspond to them.

Thus, he added that this visit damages the image of the King Emeritus, given that the Spanish “believed in his work” at the head of the Casa del Rey in “very difficult” times of transition and democratization of the country but “they have been disappointed” for these acts that have been demonstrated, as he has stated. “I think he has missed the opportunity to give the response that the Spanish expect and democracy deserves,” he pointed out.

In addition, he has defended the work of the current monarch, Felipe VI, who, according to the Government’s opinion, “is doing everything he has to do” with respect to the exemplary nature of the institution. “Who is not doing it is his father Juan Carlos I”, he has continued.
