MADRID, 22 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
King Felipe VI will receive this Monday at the Royal Palace in Madrid the credentials of seven new ambassadors in Spain, thus complying with the necessary procedures to be able to represent the interests of their respective countries.
The first to go to the Royal Palace will be the new ambassador of Sudan, Maha Suleiman Taha Ayoub, followed by the ambassador of Slovakia, Juraj Tomaga, and that of Oman, Omar Said Omar al Kathiri.
Next, it will be the turn of the representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Geneviève Victorine Lukusa Kayembe, and after her will come the new ambassador of Colombia, Eduardo Ávila Navarrete. The last to parade through the Royal Palace will be the ambassador of Honduras, Marlon Antonio Brevé Reyes, and that of Japan, Takahiro Nakamae.
In order to officially act as representatives of their respective countries, the ambassadors must present Felipe VI the letter that accredits them as such in an act of deeply rooted tradition in the Royal Palace.
The ceremony dates back to the 18th century and has remained practically intact in its development to this day. Thus, the new ambassadors are transferred in period floats of National Heritage from the Palace of Santa Cruz, historical headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the Royal Palace, escorted by the Squadron of the Royal Guard on horseback and the Squadron of Beaters of the Municipal police.
Upon arrival at the Palace, they are welcomed by the Royal Guard music band in the Patio de la Armería, which plays the hymns of their respective countries. The King, in addition to receiving the supporting documents, has a brief meeting with all of them separately.
The seven new ambassadors will return to the Royal Palace two days later, since the traditional reception for the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Spain is scheduled for Wednesday. After two years in which the number of attendees has been reduced and its format varied due to the pandemic, it is expected that normality will return, as has already happened with other events such as October 12 or Military Easter.
Felipe VI has started the year with an agenda full of events related to diplomacy. The monarch was in charge of closing the Ambassadors Conference on January 10, which brought together representatives to more than a hundred countries and international organizations in Madrid.
This Friday Don Felipe went to the Diplomatic School to deliver their offices to the 74th promotion of the Diplomatic Career, the first in which there are more women than men, 21 compared to 14.
