The Provincial Court of Zaragoza has agreed to file for the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Arancha González Laya the case known as the ‘Ghali case’, as it saw no evidence of a crime, in relation to the entry into Spain of the leader of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, since He entered the country on the night of April 18, 2021 without going through border or documentation controls, and also confirms the file for former Foreign Minister Camilo Villarino.
According to an order from this same Thursday, to which Europa Press has had access, the judge has lifted the accusation against the former minister, thus following the arguments put forward by the State Attorney, which reiterated that there were no elements that allowed proving a possible crime of prevarication , cover-up or falsehood on the part of any of the former Government officials.
The court has indicated that it does not share the criterion of the investigating judge, “although it is undeniable that González Laya was aware of the intention that Ghali be treated in Spain and took an active part in the preparations that led to it”, however, “it does not There are indications that support the conclusion that he knew of the existence of a legal interest in that person.”
Specifically, the legal services of the State argued, in an 18-page brief, that the facts proven in the framework of the investigation “do not constitute any crime.” “It is appropriate, therefore, that an instruction regarding my investigators not be unnecessarily lengthened, due to the conditions and unfavorable consequences that it entails for them,” they said. This, underlined, “without prejudice to the possible continuation or maintenance of the actions in relation to others investigated regarding the possible crime of falsehood.”
