The period of validity of identity cards issued since January 2004, has been extended by 5 years. For some, the expiration date does not therefore correspond to the one entered on the document. Trip, this can be a problem. A reader informed us of his misadventure.
The story : Peter C. recently gone on vacation in Norway. At the border, his identity card, still valid in France, since it has less than fifteen years, has been refused. Fortunately for him, he also had his passport. Without this document, it would have been repressed in the country.
Explanation : From January 1, 2014, the period of validity of the national identity card is increased from ten to fifteen years. Thus, for all the cards issued between 2 January 2004 and 31 December 2013, the expiry date does not match the date on the card.
But some countries do not allow entry to their territory to persons holding an identity document bearing a date of validity in appearance outdated.
