VALENCIA, 20 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The pioneering study on photonic snakes, published last May in the journal ‘Nature Photonics’ and led by Professor Carles Milián, from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), has been chosen by the magazine ‘Optics
Thus, the informative publication of the Optical Society of America (OSA), highlights in its latest issue the most relevant research that has marked the year 2023 in the field of optics and photonics. In its special December edition, it presents the selection of the 30 most outstanding research projects worldwide in this field, providing a privileged look at the scientific progress of the year.
In the work of the Polytechnic, in which professors Alberto Conejero and Pedro Fernández de Córdoba (from the UPV), Salim B. Ivars (from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) and Yaroslav V. Kartashov and Lluís Torner (from the Instituto of Photonic Sciences), a very precise model has been built that includes all the phenomena that can influence the formation of these promising structures, photonic snakes, a new instrument that will help reveal the secrets of light.
On the other hand, the magazine looks to the future in its Optics in 2024 section
In this way, the contribution of these scientists has not only been recognized for the achievements obtained, but also projects its impact on the scientific horizon that is envisioned for the next five years.
The UPV researchers, belonging to the University Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics of this institution, point out that “this recognition highlights the achievements of our research group dedicated to carrying out rigorous mathematical modeling of various problems with possible applications in technology transfer.” .
“Especially, we are proud of our contribution to the development of models within the field of photonics, where for decades we have addressed the modeling of complex phenomena of applied interest,” they point out.
The team from the UPV, UPC and ICFO emphasizes that their discovery will further stimulate research in the field and will give rise to new applications and revolutionary technologies. “Thanks to these advances, we are one step closer to unraveling the mysteries of light and harnessing its full potential for the benefit of our society,” they conclude.
