VALENCIA, 13 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Department of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism finances the development of new sustainable concentrated detergent formulations that help reduce the carbon footprint and improve environmental care by promoting zero waste.
The company specialized in the development of products for home cleaning and personal care, SPB Global and AITEX, the textile technology center, collaborate in this initiative that aims to formulate a new type of detergent that contributes to reducing the use of plastic and its impact on the planet.
This project has the economic backing of the Valencian Agency for Innovation (AVI) and funding from the European Union within the framework of the FEDER Valencian Community program for the period 2021-2027, the Generalitat has indicated in a statement.
The objective of this initiative, called ECOLAMIDET, lies in the development of a laundry product that, in addition to reducing the ecological footprint, provides other differential characteristics such as biodegradability and the sustainable use of palm oil, maintaining effectiveness in cleaning. Furthermore, it is a model that will take advantage of resources and reduce the use of raw materials.
The reasons for promoting ECOLAMIDET are economic and environmental. The format in which it will be marketed presents competitive advantages for companies such as better use of transportation, significant reduction of plastic, lower weight, and ease of use and storage for the consumer.
On the other hand, the development of this eco-sustainable alternative will allow us to obtain products with a low environmental impact that will maintain their properties and competitive cost. In this way, ECOLAMIDET’s sustainability becomes a hallmark to differentiate itself from the competition and one of the main objectives, since the detergent sector generates more than 4.4 billion tons of microplastics per year.
The general director of this Valencian company, Gracia Bordeos, has stressed that “innovation and sustainability are two of the fundamental axes at SPB.” “The development of new, more sustainable processes and products that reduce our carbon footprint and help us achieve the challenge of decarbonization is a priority for us. This project is, without a doubt, an important commitment that we at SPB are making with the objective to achieve it,” he highlighted.
Within the framework of this project, SPB Global staff contribute their experience in the manufacturing of household and personal care products and provide knowledge related to the development of the detergent. Furthermore, this project will help to consolidate one of the main challenges of the entity’s economic activity, eco-sustainability.
On the other hand, the development lines related to the search for new surfactant formulations with differential properties of the detergent are being developed by the AITEX technology center. Supported by this knowledge, AITEX and SPB Global are cooperating to find the most sustainable laundry detergent formula.
This project is aligned with the conclusions of the Specialized Strategic Innovation Committee (CEIE) in circular economy, where the development of more sustainable consumer goods is advocated.
Likewise, ECOLAMIDET is part of the pillars of the Intelligent Specialization Strategy of the Valencian Community, S3, coordinated by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism.
