VALENCIA, 5 Dec. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Energy Technological Institute (ITE) has developed the GEDAI project, thanks to the financing of the Generalitat Valenciana through the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), whose purpose is to improve productive performance and optimize energy consumption, as well as the carbon footprint of those companies that, as a consequence of their activity, generate industrial water waste.

In this sense, ITE technician Alejandro Rubio explained that “GEDAI was created to provide an effective response to this need. The project seeks to develop and validate a methodology for rapid and effective deployment of Digital Twins for productive, energy and environmental improvement.”

In this project, a successful rapid prototyping methodology for ‘digital twins’ is developed and applied, which addresses the challenge of digitalization, as well as energy and production optimization to the value chain of generation and treatment of industrial wastewater, associated with a manufacturing process.

“This cutting-edge technology allows us to virtualize the process and propose optimization scenarios, perform monitoring functions or even predict behavior and impact of measures, among other things. The importance of the methodology to be developed in GEDAI lies in the limited access available to many of companies to this technology,” explained Alejandro Rubio.

The applied methodology has the potential to address productive improvements, as well as reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint. For Alejandro Rubio, the sectors that directly benefit from this purpose “are those that have machinery or processes that generate water that must be treated, proposing a transversal approach, although the methodology is designed in order to potentially be applied to any manufacturing company. “.

Currently the project is reaching its halfway point, in phases of adapting the methodology to the particularities of each company. Without a doubt, the GEDAI project is part of the new challenges to face climate change with the aim of achieving energy neutrality by 2050 .

Therefore, national strategic plans focus on the need to overcome deficiencies in energy and process efficiencies in treatment plants; renewable energy; greenhouse emissions; as well as byproducts to improve processes with an impact on energy and climate objectives; as well as in circular economy.

The GEDAI project with file IMAMCA/2023/9 has been financed by the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) through an R&D agreement with the Generalitat Valenciana within the aid aimed at technological centers in the Valencian Community.
