MADRID, 17 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis players Pablo Carreño and Alejandro Davidovich have sealed their ticket to the second round of the Australian Open, the first ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, after beating Argentine Pedro Cachín (7-6(4), 6-1, 7-6(3)) and Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-0, 6-7(3), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3), respectively.

The Asturian, current number 15 in the world, had to work hard against a solid rival with his serve, which forced him to play two ‘tie-breaks’ in which, yes, the Spaniard emerged victorious, who connected 15 serves direct during the match and raised up to 90% effectiveness with the first serve.

The sudden death resolved in favor of Carreño a first set in which both defended their services to perfection. Already in the second set, the man from Gijón converted two of the six break opportunities he had during the match to increase his advantage.

Once again, the tiebreaker decided a third set in which Carreño closed the contest in two hours and eight minutes. Now, he will face French Benjamin Bonzi in an unprecedented duel.

For his part, Davidovich, number 32 in the ATP, took the tough battle that he starred in with Kazakh Alexander Bublik, 36 in the world. The man from Malaga withstood the 20 direct aces and 43 winners from his opponent, taking advantage of six of the 13 break opportunities that were presented to him in the match.

The Spaniard, who will face American Tommy Paul in the second round, started with a promising donut in the first set, but saw the Kazakh take the lead after winning the second set in the tie-break and take the third with two breaks.

Davidovich no longer conceded anything with his serve and relied on a break in each of the two remaining sets to win after three hours and 12 minutes of play.
