MADRID, 11 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Dozens of people have marched this Saturday through the Italian town of Stacatto di Cutro to remember the 75 fatalities of the shipwreck two weeks ago off the coast of Calabria, one of the greatest recent tragedies of the migration crisis, after the discovery in the last hours of two new lifeless bodies on the coast, one of them that of an underage girl.
Several associations have marched in a demonstration led by a wooden cross made from the wreckage and among harsh criticism of the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, for appearing singing karaoke with the Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, both defenders of a hardening of the policy against migration.
The mayor of Crotona, Vincenzo Voce, participated in this demonstration under the slogan “Let’s stop this massacre immediately”, reports ‘La Repubblica’, which was also attended by relatives of the victims of the shipwreck, the regional secretary for Calabria of the union CGIL, Angelo Sposato, or the mayor of the Calabrian city of Melissa, Raffaele Falbo.
It should be said that Meloni presided over an extraordinary council of ministers in Cutro on Thursday as “a symbolic gesture” interpreted by critics of the president and her far-right coalition as a provocation.
In the last hours, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, has once again called on the Italian Government to “cooperate” to avoid “new tragedies” such as the one that occurred in Calabria through a letter, published by ‘La Repubblica’, which the Italian government has subsequently described as “in perfect harmony” with its intentions in migration policy.
