MADRID, 19 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least eight people have died in the explosion of several bombs at the entrance of the largest prison in Burma, Insein, located on the outskirts of the city of Rangoon, according to local authorities.

Sources cited by the BBC have confirmed the explosion of two artifacts and have identified the victims as three prison officials and five visitors. At least ten more people have been injured.

No group has claimed responsibility for this attack, which has led to a large deployment of the Army in the area. The center houses almost 10,000 prisoners, among whom would be people imprisoned by the military junta after the coup.

According to the Myanmar Now newspaper, among the civilians killed was the mother of a student activist, Lin Htet Naing, who had come to the prison to give her son a package. The board only allows families to see interns once a week or even every two weeks.

The Burma Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (AAPP) estimates that more than 12,600 people have been detained since the military coup in early February 2021. More than 2,300 people have lost life in this time.
