PSE, PP, PNV and Elkarrekin Podemos do sign a statement of support for families and denounce that Bildu has not signed

BILBAO, 6 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has shown his “most absolute and resounding rejection” of the attack on the tomb of the leader of the PSE-EE and former vice president of the Basque Government, Fernando Buesa – murdered by ETA in 2000 – , while his party has refused to sign a statement issued by the Board of Spokespersons of the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council in which the events were condemned.

Otegi’s rejection and evasion of his party’s condemnation in Vitoria take place after the tomb of the socialist leader murdered by ETA was found sabotaged with black paint and feces and after the attack on the monolith in memory of Buesa and his bodyguard. Jorge Díaz in the Basque capital. For the coordinator of EH Bildu it represents “an authentic provocation to coexistence” in Euskadi.

“I want to express my most absolute and resounding rejection, on my behalf and on behalf of EH Bildu, of the unacceptable attacks that occurred yesterday and today in Gasteiz, and that affect the memory of Fernando Buesa,” indicated the leader of the sovereignty formation through social networks, reiterating its “commitment to alleviate and hinder any attitude that humiliates the victims”, and demands “respect” for them.

As he pointed out, “these events, whose nature and origin are unknown, are a real provocation to the democratic coexistence of our country.” He has also recalled that his party, in its Declaration of October 18 (2021), committed to “alleviate and hinder any type of attitude that humiliates the victims.” “Today it is necessary to remember it again and reiterate our commitment,” he stressed.

For its part, EH Bildu has refused to sign a declaration at the Vitoria City Council of “strong condemnation” of the attacks on the tomb and the monolith as well as support for the families who, however, have signed the PSE, PP, PNV and Elkarrekin Podemos.

The institutional statement “strongly condemns these inadmissible acts that reveal the lack of sensitivity towards the victims and the disregard for their memory.” Likewise, it expresses its “solidarity and support to the families of Fernando Buesa and Jorge Díez Elorza for these unjustifiable attacks committed by those who continue not to understand that memory is the key instrument to build a just, peaceful and free society.”

It also denounces that the attacks “only bring suffering to the victims and their families and go against good coexistence and the right of citizens to live in peace” and “reaffirms the commitment in favor of the recognition of the victims so that their memory continue to be present in the public space of Vitoria-Gasteiz, in front of those who want to erase his memory”.

The four municipal groups have shown their commitment to “continue working for the delegitimization of violence and for the ethical and social recognition of the victims.”
