Russia and Ukraine have accused each other this Wednesday of bombing the city of Energodar, where the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is located, one of the scenarios in which this war is being settled due to the concern of the international community that has requested a zone of security around these facilities.

The Ukrainian mayor of the city, Dimitro Orlov, has said that last night the city has been bombed and that consequently the supply of water and electricity is partially interrupted.

“The shelling has fallen first on the industrial zone and then on the city itself. It started around midnight and did not stop until this morning,” Orlov wrote on his Telegram account. The offensive, he has told, has damaged one of the plant’s substations and part of a local government building.

For their part, the Russian authorities in the Zaporizhia region have accused kyiv of bombing Energodar, targeting “different parts of the city”, including the area where the nuclear power plant is located, where up to nine shells would have been launched. American-made M777.

The Ukrainian missiles hit civil infrastructure facilities, the entrance bridge to the city was damaged, as well as the Luch substation, which caused the city to lose electricity, they detailed.

The Zaporizhia plant, the largest nuclear plant in Europe, has been under Russian control since March 4. Both sides accuse each other of launching attacks on the surroundings and putting the security of the region at risk.
