The Kremlin speaks of a “terrorist attack” after the incident, in which six civilians have been taken hostage

The Russian authorities have denounced on Thursday the death of two people after an offensive perpetrated by “Ukrainian saboteurs” in the town of Klimovski, located in the Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine.

The governor of Briansk, Alexander Bogomaz, has indicated in a message on his Telegram account that “the saboteurs have opened fire on a moving vehicle”, where the first victim has died.

Later, Bogomaz used the same route to add a second victim, a man in his 60s. The Briansk governor has reported that the authorities “are taking the necessary measures”. He has also reported that a child under the age of ten has been injured.

“The child has been transferred to a hospital, where he is receiving all the necessary care,” he said, before emphasizing that “the Russian Armed Forces are taking all necessary measures to eliminate the group of saboteurs.”

Likewise, official sources quoted by the Russian news agency TASS have stated that at least six people have been taken hostage by “saboteurs” in the region, without further details being available for the moment. “Groups of Ukrainian saboteurs have entered two towns and taken residents hostage in one of them,” they said.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) has confirmed in statements given to the Russian news agency Interfax an operation in Klimovski against “armed Ukrainian nationalists who have violated the border.”

Sources quoted by TASS have added that the “saboteurs” have attacked Liubechan and Sushani, which are 15 kilometers away, and have stressed that the group would be made up of several dozen armed people.

After that, the Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, has called the incident a “terrorist attack”. “We are talking about an attack carried out by terrorists. Measures are being taken to destroy them,” he said, before adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin is receiving “regular reports” from security agencies.

“At the international level, we have paid and will continue to pay attention, drawing the attention of the international community to the terrorist attacks that these people are carrying out,” he said.

On the other hand, the governor of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, has affirmed that a woman has died and another has been injured due to an attack by the Ukrainian Army against the town of Tiotkino. “According to preliminary information, three houses have suffered shrapnel damage,” he said on his Telegram account, before adding that the attack has caused a cut in electricity service in the city.

Briansk, Kursk and other Russian regions located on the border have been the scene of attacks attributed to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, mainly with drones, in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine, unleashed on February 24, 2022 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
