Galicia registers, with 87.1 percent counted, a participation of 67.24 percent in the parliamentary elections of this 2024, a figure that is almost 20 points above that registered in the 2020 elections, marked by the pandemic, and in which 48.97% of voters voted. In 2016, this percentage had been 53.63%.
The general director of Emergencies and Interior, Santiago Villanueva, appeared around 10:00 p.m. to give the electoral results with the count exceeding 80 percent, awaiting the final data at the close of the count and including the CERA vote. , which will mean 29,300 more ballots.
By province, with the percentage of votes counted so far, in A Coruña 65.84% have voted; in Lugo, 69.82%; in Ourense, 68.75%; and in Pontevedra, 67.24%.
In this way, the PP would obtain 40 seats; followed by the BNG, with 25 seats and the PSdeG, with 9. It also enters the Galician Chamber, with one deputy, Democracia Ourensana. The rest of the political forces would not achieve representation in Parliament.
Villanueva thanked the administration, those who were at the polling stations and all citizens for their “civic behavior” throughout the day and took the opportunity to “congratulate the Galician people for this very important participation.”
In total, the electoral roll for these elections to the Galician Chamber amounts to 2,693,633 people, since to the more than 2.2 million voters registered in Galicia, we must add the 476,544 registered in the Electoral Roll of Absent Residents ( WAX). Of the latter, 29,300 finally voted, which represents 6.15% of the total.
The results of this vote, which for the first time after three regional elections has not been ‘requested’, will be announced on February 26. In 2020, 5,404 people (1.17%) had voted; in 2016, 10,777 (2.41%); and in 2012, 12,954 (3.26%). Meanwhile, in 2009, 101,708 voters had cast their vote abroad, 30.2% of the total.
Participation until 12:00 p.m. on February 18, 2024 was 17.12 percent, a figure that was 2.3 points below that recorded at that time in the electoral call four years and two points ago. above the participation figure in the 2016 election, when at noon 15.01% of voters had come to vote.
On the contrary, at 5:00 p.m. participation skyrocketed and exceeded 49%, something that had not happened since the 2009 elections. Likewise, it was six points above the 42.97% of the 2020 elections, marked by the pandemic, and the 42.49% registered in the regional elections in 2016.
