Sémper assures that a person convicted of abuse should not engage in active politics

The spokesman for the PP campaign committee and vice-secretary for Culture and Open Society, Borja Sémper, admitted on Monday that the conviction for mistreatment of the Vox candidate in the Valencian Community, Carlos Flores, is a “red line” for the Popular Party . In his opinion, he should not dedicate himself to the “active exercise of politics.”

In a press conference at the PP headquarters, Sémper has indicated that anyone who has had an episode related to gender violence or has been convicted of violence, “in this case sexist violence”, is for the PP “a line red”, alluding to the conviction of Flores in 2002 for domestic violence against his ex-wife.

“And this is our position, but it is valid for Valencia, it is valid for Euskadi and it is valid for Andalusia. We believe that a person accused and convicted of mistreatment should not dedicate himself to politics, to public exercise, to the representation of citizens”, has proclaimed.

Sémper has assured that “obviously someone who is an abuser” or has been “convicted of abuse” should not engage in the “active exercise” of politics. When asked then if the national PP will not accept “in any case” a pact of its candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, with Carlos Flores as a candidate, he has reiterated that a person convicted of mistreatment should not dedicate himself to politics

Questioned later if, in the event that Carlos Flores is not the Vox candidate, the PP led by Feijóo will endorse an autonomous government of Mazón with Vox, Sémper has insisted on the same previous answer.

“He has complied with society, but he is not a person who represents the citizens on an equal footing with the rest of the people”, Sémper has added, who has indicated that there are open conversations and has been referred to the PP of the Valencian Community that leads Mazón.

Sources from the PP leadership have indicated that there is no veto for Santiago Abascal’s party and has stressed that the negotiations are in the hands of the territorial leaders, in this case Mazón. In addition, they have added that there is no scenario that Flores has said to enter the Valencian Government.

Vox has insisted in recent weeks on its willingness to reach agreements, but has warned that its red line is “respect” for its voters, without acting as a “broom car” for the PP or giving its support “for free”.

In the negotiations, those of Abascal have advanced that their demands will vary depending on the result obtained at the polls, asking to enter the governments where their support is essential and being able to support from outside in other cases, although for now they have avoided specifying on a case-by-case basis. .
