MADRID, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The athlete Marta Pérez from Soria and Marta García from Leon certified this Thursday their participation in the 3,000 meter final, on the opening day of the 37th European Indoor Championships that began this Thursday at the Atakoy Arena in Istanbul, while the Burgos Jesús Gómez secured his third European final in 1,500 m.

The Spanish champion, in her third continental participation and first in this distance, entered the good race group first, achieving a satisfactory sixth place with 8:56.82 that gave way to the grand final. In the second heat, Marta García ran a very intelligent race and although she lost strength in the last few laps and fell behind the group, she entered eighth position with 9:06.14, the second fastest time of the three that gave the pass to the final.

For its part, in the 1,500 m men’s category there was a face and tail for the interests of the Spaniards. On the one hand, Jesús Gómez from Burgos, who came wanting to get even from the last Spanish Championship, where he was left out of the final, once again presented his credentials in the third and last series of the qualifiers with a second place (3:41.26 ) that allowed him to go to his third consecutive European final. However, the Spanish champion Ignacio Fontes had less luck with a sixth place (3:44.33) that got him out of the final.

Meanwhile, in the men’s 800 m it could not be full of Spaniards for the pass to the semifinals, to which both Adrián Ben and Javier Mirón entered through positions in their respective series. The Spanish champion and second best brand of the participants, Saúl Ordóñez, did not have his day, fading away in the final part of the test to finish fourth, afflicted in recent days by a virus.

Lastly, the Spanish champion, Lorea Ibarzabal, who defended the Spanish jersey for the first time in her life, did not fail in her great international debut either, qualifying for the semifinals of the 800m in the women’s category. Although her situation seemed to get complicated for two laps when she found herself locked in and dropping a few places, a good maneuver at the 600 m mark allowed her to progress on the outside until she rose to second position behind the French Rahrolahy.
