He calls Feijóo’s letter to Sánchez “postureo” to “hide” the meeting with Abascal
MADRID, 1 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The acting Minister of Finance and Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, María Jesús Montero, has defended this Tuesday that it corresponds to the Socialists “the responsibility” to contact the different groups, including Junts, to gather support for an investiture of Pedro Sánchez , after Sumar entrusted the leader of En Comú Podem Jaume Asens with the talks with the pro-independence party.
Montero has assured that “whoever is speaking and has the responsibility of articulating a majority is the main party of the progressive bloc”, the PSOE. “We will be the ones in charge of being able to contact the different political groups and make all the arrangements,” she said in an interview on TVE, collected by Europa Press.
The ‘number two’ of the PSOE has argued that it is Ferraz’s turn to lead the talks because in the generals they obtained more votes and seats than in 2019, in addition to the “training” they have had during the last legislature to obtain support with which to move forward measures.
As for Junts demanding a referendum and amnesty, Montero has insisted that for the PSOE the “limit” in any negotiation is the “constitutional framework”, although he has said that it makes sense for the pro-independence parties to put their ideas on the table .
Montero, who has pointed out that the PSOE is “the antipodes” of Junts’ claims, has advocated giving more importance to achieving progress and rights, since he already warns that “issues that are outside the constitutional framework are obviously ruled out”.
On the other hand, he has insisted that before negotiating an investiture, “the first thing” is the constitution of the Congress Table, on August 17, which the PSOE “of course” aspires to preside over.
The socialist minister has confirmed contacts to achieve this objective, but has not revealed with whom, nor if she is part of the PSOE negotiating team together with the head of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, since she prefers that it be carried out with “discretion”.
“You have to talk to the rest of the parliamentary groups” to “transfer to them the best way to articulate that response that the citizens gave to the offensive that a government with the ultra-right supposed”, from PP and Vox.
Montero has criticized that the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, made public the letter he sent to Sánchez to meet this week. In his opinion, he did it in order to “hide” the “secret meeting” that he had with the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal.
“That letter that Feijóo directs seems more like a posturing than really a desire for dialogue, since it hides, or at least does not tell, that there were contacts, conversations, in other environments that make any agreement or joint proposal absolutely incompatible” with the PSOE, has indicated.
The minister has expressed that Feijóo made many mistakes during the general election campaign within a strategy of “lies” and has demanded explanations for his “friendly relationship” with the drug trafficker Marcial Dorado.
Asked then if she rules out a meeting between Sánchez and Feijóo, the socialist leader has specified that the PSOE “always” is willing to speak with “everyone”, but has asked the ‘popular’ to reflect on the result of the polls, which left Clearly, in his opinion, the majority of Spaniards prefer a government that is not PP and Vox.
Montero has also reiterated that the reform of the regional financing system is urgent and mandatory, at the same time that he has opted to reach an agreement with the autonomous communities, which he has called on to leave top positions, which includes “also” the PP .
