The Investigating Court Number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has decided to order a provisional and unconditional detention for the retired Civil Guard general who was in charge of the Las Palmas Command, Francisco Javier Espinosa Navas, for his alleged relationship with the case Mediator –anti-fraud operation that investigates the management of aid to food producers–.

This has been reported by sources from the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TJSC), who add that as for the other eight people whose statement was taken this afternoon, including the former general director of Livestock of the Canary Islands and candidate of the PSOE to the Mayor of Antigua (Fuerteventura), Taishet Fuentes, have been released with the obligation to notify change of residence.

These nine people are added to the other three who were released this Thursday morning and whose passports were withdrawn, they were prohibited from leaving the national territory and they were forced to appear ‘apud acta’ on the days 1 and 15 of each month. In total, the number of detainees in the operation amounts to 12.

All of them are being investigated for bribery, money laundering, forgery, belonging to a criminal organization and influence peddling.

For their part, as sources of the investigation have explained to Europa Press, the alleged crimes that the detainees are charged with are limited to the years 2020 and 2021, when the retired general arrested this Tuesday was in charge of the GAR-SI Sahel project. , in charge of training gendarmes in West African countries and, therefore, without direct dependence on the organic structure of the Civil Guard.

In addition, among the people investigated is also Juan Bernardo Fuentes, a former Socialist deputy in Congress for the province of Las Palmas, who was general director of Livestock at the beginning of the term and was replaced in office by his nephew Taishet Fuentes.
