CEUTA, 1 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has asked the autonomous communities to reinforce primary health care and, on the contrary, not weaken it. As he has pointed out, it is something that goes beyond the claim of a professional group because in his opinion it is an “authentic social outcry.”
Sánchez made these statements during his visit to the autonomous city of Ceuta to inaugurate the new Tarajal health center together with the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, and has highlighted the resources that the Executive is putting into reinforcing public health as far as reach their competencies.
Thus, he has made it clear that Health is an area that is fundamentally in the hands of the autonomous communities, which he has asked “to strengthen primary care among all, instead of weakening it”, as he has pointed out.
“I believe that the needs of primary care go far beyond a professional group that is fair and legitimate -he has indicated in reference to the strikes and protests of professionals in the sector- they are actually an authentic social outcry”, he has sustained.
He has also claimed that the Spanish health system must be defined by the constant search for quality and therefore “it is not enough to cover the basic benefits of a minimum system”, he has reproached without making explicit reference to any specific autonomous community.
Projects respond to this desire for excellence, as mentioned by Sánchez, such as the plan to invest in high-tech equipment, the digital health strategy or the strategic avant-garde health project financed with 1,500 million euros of European funds.
The Chief Executive has stressed that free, universal and quality public health is his “personal commitment” and has defended that his Government has approved a plan of action and community care endowed with 446 million euros.
In addition, regarding the call for positions for health professionals, he has expressed his chest that those of doctors have increased by more than 35% compared to that of 2018 -before Sánchez arrived at La Moncloa- and those of nursing more than 160%.
Along the same lines, he stressed that in the last two years the central government has invested 1,000 million euros in primary care, 800 million in the investment plan for high-tech equipment, has called for the largest MIR offer in history and that Currently there are 90,000 more health professionals than when he came to the Government.
