The judge of the National Court Ismael Moreno, instructor of the Koldo case, has admitted the involvement of the Popular Party in this alleged scheme of commissions in contracts for anticovid material during the pandemic, according to sources from the party leadership.
This operation, directed by the National Court and in which the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard have participated, ended last week with the arrest of around twenty people as part of investigation proceedings by the crimes of criminal organization, influence peddling and bribery.
Last Friday, the general secretary of the PP announced that her party had requested this appearance in the cause of the so-called ‘Ábalos case’, which is how the ‘popular’ have named this alleged corruption plot for affecting the socialist militant Koldo García, who was an advisor to former Minister of Transportation José Luis Ábalos.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s team reported this Monday, through a brief statement, that “the appearance of the PP in the case investigating the corruption plot discovered in the Government of Spain has been admitted.”
By admitting the appearance of the PP in this case, the party will have access to the judicial proceedings and documents of this case which, according to the first opposition party, “directly affects” the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
Aside from the judicial investigation, the ‘popular’ have activated their machinery so that this matter is also investigated in Parliament and political responsibilities can be assumed. Thus, this Monday the Popular Group has registered an investigative commission in the Senate.
The PP has already announced that its intention is to summon Pedro Sánchez to that Senate committee. In addition, the ‘popular’ want the president of Congress and former president of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, to also appear; the former president of the Canary Islands and current Minister of Territorial Policy, Victor Ángel Torres; and the former Minister of Health and PSC candidate for the Generalitat, Salvador Illa; the current ministers Fernando Grande-Marlaska (Interior) and Óscar Puente (Transport); as well as the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, among others.
“Sánchez does not respond when asked about a corruption plot under his mandate,” stressed the head of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who has stressed that with the step of registering this investigation in the Senate what his party wants is “shed light” on this case.
Furthermore, Feijóo has alluded to the fact that Koldo García and Ábalos were the ones who brought Pedro Sánchez to the General Secretariat of the PSOE and, later, to the Executive. “Those people led him to lead the PSOE and facilitated his arrival at La Moncloa,” he stated in a message on the social network ‘X’, formerly Twitter, which Europa Press has collected.
The president of the PP will ask for explanations directly from the head of the Executive next Wednesday in the Government control session that will be held in the Plenary Session of Congress. The ‘popular’ have registered six questions on this matter after learning of the involvement of the socialist militant Koldo García.
The person in charge of opening the PP offensive in the Plenary Session of the Lower House will be Feijóo himself, who will directly ask Pedro Sánchez on Wednesday “how many scandals can your Government endure?”
