MADRID, 22 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Justicialista Party of Argentina has convened a congress for May 16 in which the lines of the formation will begin to be established in the face of the upcoming electoral process, which will not be attended by the president of the formation and of the country, Alberto Fernández, such as he announced himself on Friday.
This was decided by representatives of the ruling party in a brief meeting attended by Fernández, who proclaimed himself “guarantor” of the internal competition that is now opening. The president is in favor of revitalizing the party through the primaries, for which for now there is no clear candidate.
“He spoke in the same tune as in the Twitter video. He called for unity and to come up with a strategy for August,” said a counselor at the exit, according to the newspaper ‘La Nación’. Fernández would be in favor of an internal competition between all those who want to aspire to the Presidency, which would therefore rule out lists of unity.
The governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kiccillof, stressed that Friday “was a very good meeting to comply with the legal requirements of the party and advance in the electoral reorganization.” The objective is to provide the formation with a “clear strategy” for the future.
The Chief of Staff, Agustín Rossi, has also indicated that it was a “short” and “simple” meeting that “marks the beginning of the electoral schedule.” However, he has clarified that on May 16 it will not be determined whether there are one or more lists for the primaries, since “that will be seen later,” according to the Télam news agency.
The Argentine Vice President, Cristina Fernández, participated in the meeting indirectly, through a voice message sent to the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro, and in which she advocated “continuing to work for the happiness of the people and the greatness of the nation.”
Fernández, who has not publicly assessed the president’s decision not to stand for re-election, has limited himself to a general greeting to the attendees and, among the few names he did allude to, was not that of the head of state.
