CVS Trademark Filings: Virtual Worlds and NFTs
CVS, the drugstore giant, filed several trademark applications with the USPTO. The registrations were published by the USPTO on March 4. CVS-Health trademark #97287237 describes a variety of virtual items as well as non-fungible token concepts. Section 1(a), in the filing, states:
You can download virtual goods to your computer, including a range of consumer goods, prescription drugs and personal care products.
Section 1(b) also describes the same thing but with “digital assets or digital collectibles sold non-fungible tokens, (NFTs)”. The CVS Health trademarks for digital goods and digital collectors are similar to a number of other well-known brands that have filed similar metaverse-related trademarks at the USPTO.
In mid-February, McDonald’s filed metaverse trademarks with USPTO. Walmart filed metaverse trademarks and NFT-related trademarks mid-January. New balance, Puma and Cras also filed metaverse trademarks in recent times. According to CVS trademark filings, the concepts are intended to promote entertainment and amusement and be used in virtual environments.
CVS’s NFT concept aims to offer “online digital artwork and pictures; crypto-collectibles or application tokens used on software as a platform; crypto-collectibles or application tokens accessed by platform as a server; temporary use of non-downloadable media, namely digital assets, digital collectors, non-fungible tokens and digital tokens;
