The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, celebrated this Friday that the crime of sedition “disappears, it is eliminated” from the Penal Code but has warned that more steps will be needed to advance in the dejudicialization of the Catalan conflict.
He said it in an appearance in the Gòtica Gallery of the Palau de la Generalitat, after the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced on Thursday that this Friday PSOE and United We Can present a legislative initiative in Congress to eliminate the crime of sedition of the Penal Code and include other types of “aggravated public disorder”.
Aragonès has assured that the elimination of sedition is the result of an agreement between the Generalitat and the Government, and has defended that it helps those convicted of 1-O, since, if the Supreme Court considered that the events of 2017 were not public disorder but sedition, now “he won’t change his mind.
