The Spokesperson avoids commenting on the purple crisis but says that she aspires to reissue a progressive majority
MADRID, 8 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The socialist wing of the Government hopes that in United We can reach an understanding already in view of the next regional and municipal elections so as not to lose votes, according to government sources.
In this sense, they have indicated that it is positive that Podemos and Yolanda Díaz reach an agreement, already with a view to the next municipal and regional elections so that there is no “distraction of the vote”, that is, so that citizen support at the polls not be diluted if several competing left-wing candidacies are presented.
In this regard, the aforementioned sources indicate that they have been observing that in United We Can they have a pending debate that they must resolve and in this way they explain the declarations of the last days, after the criticism launched by its founder, Pablo Iglesias, against the second vice president, Yolanda Diaz.
They think that now a tension that was already known is made public and they also consider that it is good that the two parties understand each other because the space to the left of the PSOE needs to have an articulation.
They believe that there are territories in which it will be very difficult to reach an agreement due to previous conflicts and personal issues that are difficult to reconcile, but they hope at least that there is no general slogan and that in some places it can be achieved.
In addition, they see that the Government will arrive united until the end of the legislature and that there will be no ruptures within the Executive by the Podemos ministers, Irene Montero and Ione Belarra, nor by Díaz and the rest of the purple ministers.
In the press conference after the Council of Ministers, the Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, has avoided commenting on the division in the last hours in the ranks of United We Can, while making it clear that the aspiration continues to be to reissue a progressive majority.
“I am not going to demonstrate at this table,” Rodríguez replied when asked about this issue. “These are internal affairs of other political parties and therefore I am not going to make any consideration,” she asserted, after being asked if the PSOE is concerned about the division in the ranks of its coalition partner.
Rodríguez has also not wanted to assess whether there is concern among the Socialists that there may be a division on his left in the face of the elections, after the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, said that he needed a strong left to the left of the PSOE.
Thus, the spokeswoman has limited herself to pointing out that “the Government is focused on governing” what happens, among other things, due to the processing of the Budgets, which the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, also present at the press conference , has indicated that “it is going well” and according to the planned schedule.
The Government, the spokeswoman insisted, is “focused” on providing “security to citizens” with the measures it has been adopting “in times of complexity”, “with a progressive perspective and vision of moving forward, of not giving up progress in cutting-edge healthcare, innovation, attacking and combating climate change”.
“That is our focus of attention and of course we have ambitions in the future to achieve a progressive majority to continue leading this country” because “on the other side we are already seeing what is there”, claimed Rodríguez, who has harshly criticized the leader of the PP , Alberto Núñez Feijóo, for “questioning democracy in Spain” during the trip he is making through Latin America.
