The Japanese multinational considers Spain “a crucial new market” to expand in Europe

Uniqlo, a Japanese fashion retailer, challenges Inditex with the opening of its second store in Madrid this Thursday, becoming the firm’s largest in the Spanish market, in which it is committed to continuing to open more stores and grow.
This new store, located on Gran Vía, reinforces the presence of the textile multinational in the Spanish capital, positioning the brand as a new shopping destination in one of the busiest and most commercial streets in Europe.
“Our four stores in Barcelona and the second in Madrid represent our commitment to expand in the Spanish market, giving us the opportunity to offer our clothes to a large number of people. We are committed to Spain and our goal is to open stores in all cities and key locations in the country,” Taku Morikawa, CEO of Uniqlo Europe, told Europa Press.
The director of the Japanese firm has recognized the importance that this new opening in Spain has for the company. “We believe it is essential to establish a presence in new countries, while continuing to expand our business in existing markets,” he stressed.
“Spain is a crucial new market for us as we look to expand our business in Europe. We believe that expansion in Spain at this time will offer great opportunities for Uniqlo,” Morikawa said.

In this way, Uniqlo Gran Vía becomes the Japanese company’s sixth store in the Spanish market, where it currently operates with five other stores: PdG (2017), Glories (2017), Diagonal (2019) and La Maquinista (2021). in Barcelona and Uniqlo Serrano (2019) in Madrid.
The new store, which will open tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., is located in the emblematic building on Gran Vía 37, which originally housed the well-known Avenida cinema and the Pasapoga theater, and which was previously occupied by the fashion brand H
Uniqlo has preserved the recognizable architecture of the brand, characterized by combining simple and modern elements with historical elements of the building it occupies, such as the chandeliers, the mirrors, the stained glass windows that have been cleaned and recovered to give more light to the space, the stairs marble and coffered ceilings and the great iconic lamp of the Pasapoga club, the floor where the men’s line is located.
With a commercial area of ??more than 2,200 square meters distributed over four floors, the store offers customers the opportunity to buy the LifeWear collections for men, women, children and babies.
The new Gran Vía store will have 18 self-checkout boxes, being the most in Spain, and five traditional ones. In addition, the space will bet on design, customization and circularity are very present and Uniqlo Gran Vía will offer two exclusive areas for UTme services for the first time in the Spanish market! and Repair Studio.
Through the UTme! service, customers will be able to instantly create their own personalized designs by combining photos, images and text available in store, while Re.UNIQLO Repair Studio aims to extend the life cycle of the brand’s products by through available repair and tailoring services along with other customization options.
Uniqlo makes a ‘wink’ to Madrid and Spain with collaborations with different national companies for the decoration of the space such as Los Peñotes (Verdecora), Hannun, GoodNews, or the Churrería Manosanta, which will be in charge of receiving at the opening of Thursday with churros to those who queue to get to know the new space.
