MADRID, 17 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish athlete Javier Cienfuegos has qualified this Wednesday for his second continental hammer throw final on the third day of the European Athletics Championships, which are being held in Munich, while Jesús David Delgado has advanced to the 400m semifinals meters hurdles and Claudia Conte and María Vicente occupy the 13th and 18th position in the heptathlon after two tests held.
The captain of the team, Spanish record holder of the modality, signed the twelfth mark of the participants in the classification with a throw of 73.26 meters, his best performance in six participations in the championship. It will be his second European final after Amsterdam 2016, where he finished twelfth with a mark of 68.17 meters.
Cienfuegos began his contest with a null provoked after a very short throw, to later reach 73.26 meters, which would give him the pass to the final, and close with 71.91 meters. Finally, he finished fifth in his group and had to wait for the second to finish, in which up to seven athletes could beat him.
In the 400 meter hurdles, the Canarian Jesús David Delgado qualified by position in his series, the third of the heats, after a race in which he went from less to more, climbing positions until he was second (50.61). For his part, the Catalan Aleix Porras could only be fifth in the second series (50.77), 28 hundredths from the third position that would have classified him by position and 68 from the last place by times, which remained at 50.09.
In the women’s event, Sara Gallego will be the only Spaniard in the semifinals, although she did not have to run the heats as she advanced directly because she arrived with one of the 12 best marks of the year. On the other hand, Madrid’s Carla García will not be there, fourth in her series, just five hundredths of the third, who went through positions.
Finally, in the heptathlon, after the 100 meter hurdles and the height, Claudia Conte and María Vicente are thirteenth and eighteenth, respectively. Vicente finished second in the first series, with a time of 13.84 that earned her 1,001 points, but she was surpassed by 14 other athletes, and Conte was fourth with 14.10 and added 964 points.
At height, Vicente exceeded the bar by 1.74 meters and accumulated another 903 points to make a total of 1,904. Conte reached 1.80 meters, but could not with 1.83, and added 978 points, which makes a total of 1,942.
