MADRID, 29 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has assumed this Friday the need to work to “turn around the polls” that predict a defeat for the PSOE in the next general elections, which has ensured his forecast of calling them in December 2023.

At the press conference to balance the political course offered at the Moncloa Palace, Sánchez insisted on his will to continue governing “for the benefit of the middle and working classes”, without “euphoria” but “without falling into catastrophism” that has reproached PP and Vox.

“The surveys are going to work to turn them around”, he acknowledged after the latest survey by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS) placed the PP for the first time since 2018 as the first party in voting intention, with 1.9 points advantage over the PSOE.

This with an eye on December 2023, the date that has been indicated for the convocation of the general elections, without the possibility of prolonging the legislature until January 2024. “That is mandatory, it is constitutional,” he explained.

In addition, he has rejected that he is going to undertake a government crisis at the return of summer, continuing with the reform that he has already carried out within the PSOE. “I am very comfortable and satisfied with the work that the ministers do,” he said about his Council of Ministers.

Sánchez also took the opportunity to thank the socialist positions that have been renewed for their work and to welcome the new appointments. “Everyone in the PSOE is necessary, I have greatly appreciated the work of the previous spokesperson for the Executive, the Socialist Group and the Deputy Secretary General and now I do the same with politicians who are willing to work for the party and the socialist project that we represent “, he remarked.
