Google’s Phone app has introduced a new “Lookup” feature, as part of the June Pixel Feature Drop. This feature allows users to do a reverse number search easily. When you receive a call from an unknown number, you can simply tap on the call in the Recents tab to expand it. From there, you will see a new “Lookup” button along with options to add the contact, send a message, or view the call history.
By tapping on the Lookup button, Google Search will open with the number displayed, including the country code in parentheses. This new feature eliminates the need for long-pressing, copying the number, opening the Google app, and pasting the number for a search. It’s a convenient quality-of-life upgrade that many users will find helpful.
The Lookup feature is currently available in version 132 of the Phone by Google app, which is in beta. It is a server-side update, so users do not need to have the latest June Feature Drop or security patch installed to access it. Many Pixel users have reported seeing the Lookup feature on their devices this morning.
Additionally, a new shortcut to “Contact ringtones” has been spotted in the Phone Settings menu. This feature is located below Audio Emoji, another recent addition to the app. However, the Contact ringtones shortcut is not yet widely rolled out to all users.
