MADRID, 10 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

French President Emmanuel Macron assured Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky on Thursday that France would deliver more heavy weapons to Ukraine “as needed” to use in its defense against Russia.

The two leaders have had a telephone conversation in which they have discussed the Ukrainian needs after the Russian invasion, as detailed by the Elysee in a statement.

During the call, Macron offered the Ukrainian president “the necessary support” from France to his country in terms of military equipment — including heavy weapons — political and financial support, and humanitarian aid.

Zelensky, for his part, gave Macron details about the situation on the front, as well as about the possible development of the war in the coming days and weeks and about the intentions of the Russian troops, as explained by the Ukrainian Presidency.

Both leaders have also discussed Ukraine’s path towards its formalization as a candidate for the European Union, which will be debated at the European Council on June 23 and 24.

“We continue to work very actively in all the countries of the European Union on a daily basis, so that the situation of our country’s candidacy is perceived equally there,” Zelensky ruled, adding that “the majority of Europeans support the integration of Ukraine “.

“If Europeans support it, then the politicians who are still skeptical in some countries should not oppose people, society and the very course of European history,” he added.
