MADRID, 10 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least one Palestinian has been killed in a clash late on Thursday in the West Bank town of Halhul, located on the outskirts of Hebron, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has confirmed.
The Ministry of Health has indicated in a statement that the man, identified as Mahmud Fayez abu Aihur, 27, has died after being shot by Israeli soldiers. “The bullet penetrated Aihur’s abdomen, diaphragm and aorta and all attempts by medical personnel to save his life were unsuccessful,” he said.
According to information collected by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the clashes broke out during a raid by Israeli forces in Halhul, where they blocked the main street and a currency exchange establishment. Israeli soldiers also fired rubber bullets, leaving five others injured.
For its part, the Israeli Army has indicated that the clashes broke out during a raid against a business suspected of financing the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), considered a terrorist group by Israel.
Thus, he assured that “riots broke out in which dozens of Palestinians threw stones, explosive devices and Molotov cocktails at Israeli troops, who used methods of mass control and live fire”, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’. Finally, he has indicated that the raid has resulted in several detainees, although all have been released.
The area has been the scene of increased tensions in recent weeks after the death of 15 people in attacks carried out in March in Israel. The Israeli army and security forces increased raids in the West Bank, where more than 30 Palestinians have been killed in operations since the end of that month.
