The presidents of the Provincial Councils of Vizcaya, Barcelona, ??Álava, Burgos, Guipúzcoa, Alicante and the Cabildo de Tenerife received a higher salary in 2021 than that of the Chief Executive, Pedro Sánchez, who received 84,845.16 euros per year. At the top of the list is the deputy general of Vizcaya, Unai Rementeria, who received 112,250.60 euros last year.

This is reflected in the Salary Information System for Administration Posts (ISPA), managed by the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy. Behind Rementeria is the president of the Barcelona Provincial Council, the socialist Nuria Marín, who in 2021 earned 106,916.74 euros.

Meanwhile, the general deputy of Álava, Ramiro González, received 101,392.35 euros; the president of the Burgos Provincial Council received 94,261.81 euros; the deputy general of Guipúzcoa, Markel Olano, received 88,590.49 euros; the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Manuel Martín Domínguez, 86,602.66 euros and the president of the Diputación de Alicante, Carlos Mazón, 84,891.94 euros.

In contrast, the presidents of the Provincial Councils who earn the least are in a non-dedication regime and are that of Girona, Miguel Noguer (34,812.01 euros); that of the Cabildo de La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo (14,540.00 euros), and that of El Hierro, Alpidio Armas (8,832.67 euros).
