The Ukrainian authorities have denounced this Friday that at least five people have died and 13 have been injured after the explosion of a Russian cluster bomb near a public transport stop in the city of Mikolaiv, in the south of the country.
“Attack with cluster projectiles at a public transport stop,” announced the head of the Mikolaiv regional council, Hanna Zamazeyeva, on her Telegram account. “Intentional attacks against civilians. Russia’s terrorist acts continue. Right now there are five dead and 13 wounded,” she has let her know.
The mayor of the city, Oleksandr Sienkovich, had previously denounced this morning in his first announcement of the attack, which occurred around 10:00 a.m., that Russia had effectively used this class of ammunition, prohibited by various international conventions due to its indiscriminate nature.
Neither the Government nor the Russian Army have made statements in this regard, for the moment.
The Ukrainian authorities, as well as NGOs such as Amnesty International, denounce that Russia has been using this type of ammunition practically since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, on February 27.
Last month, Amnesty published a report in which it identified at least 28 indiscriminate bombings launched by Russia on the Ukrainian city of Kharkov between February 28 and April 30, of which seven were carried out with this class of ammunition.
