MADRID, 27 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, has nominated Andriy Kostin as the country’s new attorney general on Wednesday, about a week after Parliament approved the dismissal of Irina Venediktova, who was removed from office along with the head of the services of Intelligence (SBU), Ivan Bakanov.
Zelenski has sent during the day a draft resolution with the nomination of Kostin, a member of the Servant of the People faction, to which the president belongs, according to a statement published by the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) through its website.
Venediktova was replaced on an interim basis by Oleksiy Simonenko after her dismissal, amid accusations against employees of both agencies for alleged acts of treason. Thus, Zelensky argued that around 60 staff members of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the SBU “remained in the Russian-occupied territories and collaborated with the Russians.”
“Such a set of crimes against the foundations of the national security of the state and the connections that have been registered between the employees of the security forces of Ukraine and the special services of Russia raise very serious questions about their respective leaders,” settled the president. ukrainian
