The Prosecutor’s Office asks to sentence him to nine and a half years in prison

BARCELONA, Nov. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Barcelona Court began this Monday the trial of a defendant for launching pyrotechnics at the Mossos d’Esquadra helicopter during a demonstration in Barcelona against the sentence of 1-O on October 16, 2019, two days after knowing the convictions .

On the first day of the trial, 13 Mossos appeared as witnesses, including two members of the Aerial Media Unit who were in the helicopter at the time: one of the two was in charge of handling the camera and transmitting images to the coordination, and has said that he saw the entire sequence through the camera monitor.

“I heard a detonation and physically the helicopter made a movement, I suppose it would be the pilot’s reaction” to take height and prevent an accident, he added that he did not notice that the aircraft was destabilized and he assessed that the pyrotechnics could have posed a serious risk if I would have entered through the window.

The pilot will testify on the second day of the trial and this Monday the co-pilot did testify, who unlike the person responsible for recording images, has assured that he heard more than one detonation, stating that he noticed “the deflagration very close to the helicopter, which caused a vibration “.

The two policemen who were traveling in the helicopter have also differed about their movements after the fireworks were launched: the first has said that they stayed in the same place but at a higher altitude, while the second has assured that they withdrew from the area.

According to the indictment of the Prosecutor’s Office, the man launched two pyrotechnic rockets towards the aircraft, an hour apart, in the midst of the altercations that took place on those days in the center of Barcelona, ??and the prosecutor claims to sentence him to nine years and a half in prison for the alleged crimes of disorder, assault on police officers and minor injuries when allegedly trying to resist being arrested.

Four mossos have also declared this Monday that they were in civilian clothes among the protesters that day: two saw the accused allegedly launch the second pyrotechnic rocket and then followed him around the area until he was reduced, but finally they did not arrest him because they feared being exposed as policemen among protesters.

The defendant was arrested the next day when he returned from dropping his son off at school and the agents who searched his house have explained that they seized a pamphlet, a black helmet and a yellow scarf with the ‘estelada’ that he was supposedly wearing during the protest to cover your face

To identify him, the Mossos made a photographic report comparing images of that day with others taken at another demonstration, on September 29, 2018, at the ‘Holi’ protest against the concentration of the Jusapol police association.

In the expert evidence phase, two mossos have exposed that the fingerprints on the plastic tube that was used to launch the pyrotechnics coincide with those of the accused, and the trial will continue on Tuesday, November 15 with the statement of the helicopter pilot and the interrogation of the accused.
