MADRID, 31 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The French Consumer Price Index (CPI) eased in May to 5.1% year-on-year, eight tenths below the 5.9% increase in the previous month, according to preliminary data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee).

In the case of harmonized inflation, used by Eurostat in its statistics, the interannual rate in France in May fell to 6% from 6.9% in the previous month.

“This drop in inflation would be due to the year-on-year slowdown in energy, food, manufactured goods and services prices,” explained the French statistical institute.

Specifically, in the fifth month of the year, energy prices have risen by 2%, compared to the 6.8% year-on-year rise in April, while the rise in food has moderated to 14.1% since 15 % of the previous month. Likewise, services have become more expensive by 3%, compared to 3.2% in April.
