The Finnish manufacturer of telecommunications and network equipment Nokia has closed the first quarter of the year with an attributable net profit of 279 million euros, which represents an increase of 31.6% compared to the result registered in the same period of the previous year. as reported by the multinational.
In the first quarter of 2023, Nokia’s net sales totaled 5,859 million euros, 9.5% more than in the same period of 2021, while R&D spending increased 3.3%, up to 1,108 million euros .
Revenues from Nokia’s mobile network business increased by 13.2%, to 2,567 million euros, while infrastructure grew by 13.9%, to 2,248 million. In turn, the revenues of Nokia Technologies fell 21%, up to 242 million.
For the year as a whole, the Finnish company expects to achieve net sales of between 24,600 and 26,200 million euros, which would mean an increase of between 2% and 8% at constant exchange rates.
“Looking ahead, we are beginning to see some signs that the economic environment is affecting customer spending,” said Nokia Chairman and CEO Pekka Lundmark.
In this sense, given the current need to invest in 5G and fiber, the executive has expressed his confidence that it is “a matter of time”, although he has stressed that Nokia will maintain its cost discipline to successfully navigate this uncertainty.
