A 14-year-old Spanish teenager was found dead this Monday after falling down a ravine between the towns of Arette and Lourdios-Ichère, on the French side of the Pyrenees mountain range.

The girl was on foot with her family when she fell down a slope of dozens of meters on Monday afternoon. Her father alerted the authorities, who launched a rescue operation, according to the French regional newspaper ‘Sud Ouest’.

Members of the mountain fire brigade group and the Oloron high mountain gendarmerie platoon were mobilized for the search, which also included a Dragon 64 Civil Protection helicopter.

A firefighter and gendarmes located the body, as explained by the mayor of Arette, Pierre Casabonne, at around 8:30 p.m. “She was finally located in the Bourdès district, an area of ??Arette that borders the town of Lourdios. Unfortunately she had died,” he indicated.
