The gross domestic product (GDP) of the United Kingdom grew again in the month of January, when it expanded by 0.2% compared to the previous month, after the monthly contraction of 0.1% registered in December 2023, as reported the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Service sector activity grew by 0.2% in January 2024 and contributed the most to the increase in GDP, while production fell by 0.2% and construction grew by 1.1%.

Likewise, real GDP is estimated to have fallen by 0.1% in the three months to January 2024, compared to the three months to October 2023.

In this case, services activity showed no growth, while production fell 0.2% and construction fell 0.9% in the three months to January.

Compared to the same month last year, GDP is estimated to have fallen 0.3% in January and, in the longer term, GDP is estimated to have fallen 0.2% in the three months to January 2024 compared with the three months until January 2023.
