VALENCIA, 14 Dec. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has announced that the central Government will approve in the Council of Ministers next Tuesday the tender for the works of the container terminal of the northern expansion of the Port of Valencia.

This was stated after visiting the facilities of the Port of Valencia that will house the new terminal, together with the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón; the mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá; the Government delegate in the Community, Pilar Bernabé, and the president of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), Mar Chao, among other authorities.

The announcement comes one year after the board of directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) approved the Construction Project of the Container Dock for the North Extension of the Port of Valencia, which according to the price update carried out last week, will mean a public investment of 660 million euros, to which are added the 1,012 million that will be contributed by the company Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), of the MSC group, which will be in charge of the construction and operation, under an administrative concession, of the new terminal.

The northern container terminal will have an area of ??about 137 hectares and 1,970 meters of berthing line, with a capacity to house 5 million containers. It will have a fully electrified installation that will allow it to supply the ships and the objective is that the origin of its electricity comes from 100% renewable sources. In its project, TIL offers to develop a railway terminal equipped with 6 tracks 1,000 meters long, with the capacity to move 305,000 TEUs/year by rail.

The infrastructure has been widely demanded by the business community, although it has been rejected by social and environmental entities, such as those grouped in the Ciutat-Port Commission, and the Compromís coalition, which during the event this Thursday have concentrated on the vicinity of the Clock Building.
