MADRID, 19 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (12:00 p.m. in mainland Spain) voting has begun for the second round of the Argentine presidential elections, which pits the Peronist Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria, UxP) against the far-right candidate Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza, LLA).
A total of 35,815,436 people are registered to participate in the vote to elect who will occupy the Casa Rosada starting December 10 and for the next four years.
The National Electoral Chamber, the body responsible for the process, has recalled the channels enabled to make complaints after in the last few hours LLA, Milei’s platform, pointed to possible electoral fraud, although without presenting evidence when summoned for it.
Polling stations will be open until 6:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. in mainland Spain), although those who are in line to vote at that time will be able to do so without a time limit.
Voting is also mandatory and absence is punishable by a fine of 50 pesos (12 euro cents) and which could reach up to 500 pesos (12 euros) if it is repeated.
Regarding security, 86,000 members of the national and provincial armed and security forces have been mobilized to guard the different stages of the electoral process.
