-Xinhua Silk Road: Asia-potash International potassium fertilizer project included in Belt and Road case study

BEIJING, Nov. 9, 2023/PRNewswire/ — Asia-potash International Investment (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd.’s potash fertilizer project in Laos is listed in a book compiling 36 completed Belt and Road cooperation projects by Chinese companies.

The compilation, generated from a case study jointly conducted by the Research Center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) and the China Economic Information Service (CEIS), was launched during the Thematic Forum on Thought Exchange of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held earlier in Beijing.

Located in Khammuan province in central Laos, the potash fertilizer project enjoys an advantageous location as it is located next to Highway 13, a major transportation artery that runs through Laos and connects Cambodia and Vietnam. Highway 13 also leads to Vientiane in the north and connects the project to the China-Laos railway.

Asia-potash International started the 1 million ton potash fertilizer reconstruction and expansion project in April 2020, the first of its kind in Laos, which was completed after 17 months.

The company currently owns 214.8 square kilometers of potash mining rights and 48.5 square kilometers of potash prospecting rights in Khammuan province, which could be converted into one billion tons of pure potassium chloride resources, which makes it the largest in Asia in terms of potash resources.

The company strives to reach a production capacity of 5 million tons by 2025 to become a world-class potash supplier, and will further expand to a capacity of 7-10 million tons/year in the future depending on demand. From the market.

The company also initiated an Asia-Potash International Smart Industrial Park project in 2022, which includes a potash fertilizer industrial park and a non-potash industrial park to help promote industrialization in Laos.

The potash fertilizer industrial park is expected to generate more projects, creating income and jobs for the local community, while the non-potash industrial park would better utilize the associated resources of the Lao potash mine, integrate other advantageous resources such as coal and bauxite, and would help develop other chemical projects to promote the country’s industrialization.

In addition to investment and project construction, the company actively fulfills corporate social responsibility, carrying out poverty alleviation projects, establishing education funds, helping infrastructure construction, developing modern agriculture, among others. to support the development of Laos, which is highly recognized by the government and the public.
