MADRID, 1 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Airbus has signed with Air Niugini, the national airline of Papua New Guinea, a firm order for the sale of six A220-100 single-aisle aircraft, the aircraft manufacturer reported.

In addition, Air Niugini will also acquire three A220-300 model aircraft and another two A220-100 model aircraft from third-party lessors, the company added.

Combining the longest range, lowest fuel consumption and largest cabin in the 100-150 seat category, the A220 will be operated by Air Niugini across its national and regional network.

Airbus indicated that this new fleet will offer more capacity and greater reliability across the domestic network and will allow the airline to fly from the country’s capital, Port Moresby, to new destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

As of the end of September, Airbus had received more than 800 orders for the A220 from around 30 customers, of which more than 280 had been delivered. The A220 is already successfully in service with 17 airlines around the world.
