Custom Shutterstock content trained with NVIDIA Picasso cloud-based generative AI service to use text prompts to rapidly generate 3D content for gaming, entertainment, and industrial digital twins

NEW YORK, March 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Shutterstock, Inc. (NYSE: SSTK), a leading creative platform for transformative brands and media, just announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to train custom 3D models for create generative 3D assets from simple text prompts. Through a pioneering collaboration, 3D models will be trained on Shutterstock assets using NVIDIA Picasso generative AI cloud services to turn text into high-fidelity 3D content, reducing creation time from hours to minutes.

When the models are introduced in the coming months on Shutterstock.com, NVIDIA’s new generative AI features will be the latest addition to Creative Flow, a comprehensive set of tools designed to provide the most seamless creative experience possible. Text-to-3D conversion capabilities will also be offered on Turbosquid.com and are planned to be introduced on the NVIDIA Omniverse™ platform for building and using 3D metaverse industrial applications.

Says Paul Hennessy, CEO of Shutterstock: “Our collaboration with NVIDIA in the field of generative 3D will power the next generation of 3D imaging tools, dramatically reducing the time it takes to create high-quality textured and structured 3D models.” “This first-of-its-kind collaboration reinforces our strategy of leveraging Shutterstock’s vast repository of metadata to bring new products, tools and content to market. By combining our 3D content with NVIDIA’s base models and using our respective marketing and distribution platforms, we are able to seize an extraordinarily large market opportunity.”

With today’s professional software tools, creating a high-quality, detailed 3D model from scratch is often a time-consuming and arduous task for creators. In the case of content created for use as a digital twin, where absolute precision is required, the complexity of the job can take days or even longer depending on the particularities of the model. By creating custom models with the NVIDIA Picasso generative AI cloud service, Shutterstock will help 3D artists create shapes from objects, help them unwrap objects, generate textures and materials, and for non-3D users, it will even produce complete 3D models ready for use in a wide variety of applications and platforms.

Greg Estes, vice president of developer programs at NVIDIA, added: “The transformative power of generative AI enables software vendors and enterprises to create tools that use simple text instructions to create 3D assets for digital twins, simulation and design, which saves artists enormous amounts of time and effort.”Training a custom Shutterstock model with NVIDIA Picasso generative AI cloud services will provide developers with a tool capable of automating much of the tedious work of artists, freeing them up to spend more time exploring new concepts and refining your ideas.

As part of its responsible AI approach and in correlation with the sales of custom 3D models on the Shutterstock platform, Shutterstock will compensate artists through its Contributor Fund for the role their intellectual property plays in shaping the generative technology.
