MADRID, 3 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

France has shown its willingness to be part of a resumption of dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, all this in the midst of the rise in tensions in the area, according to a statement from the Elysee.

This was expressed by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, during a visit by the latter to Paris in which both leaders highlighted the good state of their bilateral relations.

Macron has shown himself willing to mediate between Israelis and Palestinians for the resumption of dialogue in search of a solution that meets the legitimate aspirations of both parties, according to the letter from the French government.

Meanwhile, the French president has expressed his concern about the current situation in the West Bank and Gaza and in Israel, recalling the importance of avoiding any measure that could “feed the cycle of violence that has already claimed too many innocent victims among Palestinian civilians and Israelis”.

In this sense, the French president recalled “France’s attachment to the historical ‘status quo’ regarding the Holy Places in Jerusalem”, as well as his firm opposition to “the continuation of colonization that undermines the prospect of a future Palestinian state, as well as the hopes for peace and security for Israel”.

Meanwhile, the two leaders shared their great concern about Iran’s “destabilizing activities” throughout the region, citing Iranian support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine as an example.

Furthermore, Macron and Netanyahu have mentioned the Iranian nuclear program, as they would involve French and European security interests.

However, both countries have highlighted their desire to deepen the strategic association that unites the two States.
