SEVILLA, 2 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Thursday, the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, called for caution in the face of a possible merger between BBVA and Banco Sabadell. “We have to see how this operation develops, whether it will finally materialize or not,” he said.
When asked by journalists, the minister pointed out that for the Government what is desirable is to have “solid, leading, leading financial institutions in Europe and the world” and, from that point of view, he has considered this option as ” Good news”.
However, he stated that the Government of Spain, through the regulatory bodies, “will have to assess the element of competitiveness and competition, also, in terms of the financial sector.”
Furthermore, he has indicated that the Government will have to assess “any other issue raised by this merger, if it finally materializes.” “Let’s be cautious, it is a commercial operation between two financial entities, and we are going to see that offer that BBV has made to Sabadell, if it finally materializes,” he concluded.
